| PILL
SHAPED BUTTON |
| This
tutorial provides
an easy way to make
a great looking
pill-shaped button
for a better look
on a web page. |
|
Step one:
Open
a new document, make it any
size, but it's better to make
the width bigger than the
height. Mine was 200x100,
for example. Go up to "Windows"
and choose "Show Channels"
if the Channels window is
not already open.

Step
two:
Click on the "Channels" tab
in whatever window it is in.
Now, click on the "New Channel"
button.

Step
three:
Now using the Square Marquee
tool, make a rectangular selection
in the new channel, leaving
room on all sides. Fill the
selection with white, then
deselect.

Step
four:
Now go up to the "Filters"
menu and under "Blurs" choose
"Gaussian Blur". Enter the
amount of between 18 and 22,
those worked best for me.
Then click "OK".

Step
five:
Go up to the "Image" menu
and under "Adjust" choose
"Levels". (MAC:Apple+L, PC:CTRL+L)
Move the level slider on the
left towards the middle, now
move the right slider next
to the first one, until you
get the desired shape and
size you want. Click "OK".

Step
six:
Now, back in the "Channels"
window, drag the channel you
just made down to the "New
Channel" button, this should
copy the channel.

Step
Seven:
With the new channel selected,
hold Apple key (PC:CTRL) and
click on the first channel.
This should make a selection.
Now go up to "Filters" and
under "Blurs" choose "Gaussian
Blur". Choose a Radius of around 14 pixels. Click
"OK".

Step
Eight:
Click on the original image.
Go up to the "Select" menu
and choose "Load Selection".
Load the first channel you
made as the source.

Step
nine:
Go up to the "Filters" menu
and under "Render" choose
"Lighting Effects". In the
lighting effects window, use
the settings Intensity - 17, Focus - 31, Matte - 0, Material - 69, Exposure - 0, Ambience - 8, Texture Channel - the second channel you made,
make sure White is high is checked and a Height of 50. Now click "OK". Adjust
the angle of the light to
where you like.

Step
Ten:
To add a little effect, add
a small circle using the paintbrush
and using the smear tool,
shape how you like.
