Step
1: First, open up a chalk
background image drawn in
Painter, and then drag and
drop the image you want to
render-- in this case, a young
woman's face. |
 |
Step
2: Click on the Layer Mask icon to add
a layer mask. Painting in
the layer mask in black erases,
painting in white will bring
back whatever you've erased.
Use the Airbrush to knock
out the background |
 |
Step
3: The Intuos Pen's 1,024
levels of pressure give you
the control you need to create
a great layer mask. Zoom in
and erase even the small gaps
between the hair strands. |
 |
Step
4: When you're done knocking
out the background, duplicate
the Woman layer, and hide
the new layer by clicking
on the eyeball. Select the
original layer, and set it
to "Hard Light" mode, and
around sixty percent opaque.

5: Now let's get a little
chalky. Give the Hard Light
layer a little Diffuse filter,
set to normal. This will make
it slightly chalkier-looking--
go ahead and run the filter
twice if needed. |
 |
Step
6: Next, use your pressure-sensitive
airbrush tool to knock back
a little at the bottom, to
let the texture show through.
Then, knock back even more
around the upper layer, so
that the face is softly highlighted.
Erase a little of the edge
of the hair, so you can see
the texture underneath, and
set the layer to 75-80 percent
opaque. |
|
Step
7: Lightly airbrush in a shadow,
and you're done. |
