Step
1: Let's start with this image
from PhotoDisc's Retro Americana
CD |
|
|
 |
Step
2: Now we need to clone out
the ruler and the math problem.
Use the cloner with 'size' and
'opacity' turned on-- that allows
you to take full advantage of
the 1,024 levels of pressure-sensitivity
you get from the Intuos Pen.
Set your DuoSwitch for the 'Option'
or 'Alt' key, and you can sample
with a quick tap on the sideswitch
and release to clone |
|
|
 |
Step
3: And since Thanksgiving is
the season for sharing, we'll
share the stock photo duties
with a turkey from digitalStock's
Food & Ingredients CD. Use the
lasso tool to select the drumstick--
don't worry about the overlapping
leaves. |
|
|
 |
Step
4: Copy and paste the drumstick
into the chalkboard art. Click
on 'Preserve Transparency',
and clone out the overlapping
leaves |
|
|
 |
Step
5: Use the transform tool to
position the drumstick in the
correct position, and size it
accordingly |
|
|
 |
Step
6: Click on the icon to create
a layer mask, and use your airbrush
to paint out the drumstick where
it overlaps the boy's hand. |
|
|
 |
Step
7: A drumstick this big needs
to cast a shadow. Create a new
layer, set it to 'Multiply',
and paint in a shadow. Using
a Wacom pen gives you the control
you need to paint this-- press
harder for a darker shadow,
and press lighter at the end
where the shadow softens |
|
 |
Step
8: One last thing-- create another
layer under the turkey shadow,
and use your paintbrush with
the stylus set to 'Size' only.
Now you can write in the appropriate
greeting, and it will even pick
up the shadow from the drumstick. |

Step 9: Have a Happy Thanksgiving, |
